A former Nazi POW camp commandant is cleared of war crimes, but is dealt a suitable revenge after being lured back to the site of their former camp by one of his former female prisoners who he had tortured and made his sex slave during the war.

There are some nasty flashback scene's involving skulls being crushed with rifle butts and people being lowered screaming into vats of acid. Though loses much credibility due to the use of black guinea pigs in place of rats. Has often been touted as the sickest of the nazi-sploitation sub-genre, though falls way short of the mark when compared to the likes of the "Ilsa" movies.

This one undoubtedly got included because of its lurid mix of sex and violence. The release pictured left was by VFP, however Videoshack also released this in a similar sleeve, which is much rarer.

Another one of Italian gore hound Lucio Fulci's zombie pics to find it's way on to the list. Fulci regular Catherine MacColl (her second appearance on the list) and husband Paolo Malco move into a new house, only to find that it was the former home of a Dr. Freudstein and one of his bizarre experiments on the dead is still hanging about in the cellar.

Parts of the plot are a bit nonsensical, such as when the baby sitter is killed, yet no one questions her dissapearance, or where all the blood on the kitchen floor has come from, that the housekeeper is cleaning up. But gore fans will not be disappointed (well, with the uncut version anyway), which features numerous throat slashings, decapitations and poker stabbings.

This release was the cut cinema version, which removed a decapitation scene and toned down most of the gore, but still got included on the nasties list.

This Italian knock of of "Last House on the Left" (another enty on the list) from director Ruggero Deodato (of "Cannibal Holocaust" infamy) stars it's lead actor David Hess in a much similar role, as a crazed rapist, who along with video nasty regular John Morghen (his THIRD appearance on the list) gate crashes a party full of snotty rich kids.

But when they realise they were only allowed in so the other party goers could take the piss out of them, they spend the rest of the film beating up the men and doing all sorts of unsavoury things to the ladies.

Sleazier and altogethor nastier than "Last House...", particularly the scenes where Hess is slicing a women's body with a razor, exploitation fans will undoubtedly enjoy it. But rest assured, everyone gets their come-uppance during the films finale. John Morghen's "Cannibal Ferox" co-star Lorraine De-Selle also appears along with European starlet Annie Bell ("Anthropophagous") who both make their second appearance in the list with this.

A country music singer (Linda Haynes), is wrongly convicted of murder and sent to a women's prison. Unfortunately the resident psychologist, as played by Geoffrey Lewis (who played Orville Boggs in those Clint Eastwood films with Clyde the Orangutan), has been conducting bizarre psychological experiments on the inmates and our plucky female lead finds she's up next.

Strange noises are heard in her cell at night, other inmates are seen hanging in their cells, but are perfectly alright the next morning, then giant bugs and spiders start appearing in her cell with her. Quite why he's doing this is never properly explained, and the film doesn't really conclude, it just sort of ends.

Being primarily a women-in-prison film, there's plenty of female skin on show, but the film is not particularly gory and was probably targeted by the authorities because of its title, as it had already been passed for a cinema release.

Apparently based on the real life murder trial of Canadian estate agent Peter Demeter, from Toronto. Elke Sommers, who's probably better known for her appearance in "Carry on Behind", stars as his gold digging wife, who is shown to have been killed in one of a number of ways, which are all played out in a series of confusing flashbacks.

One of them involves her having a building block dropped on her head, another being electrocuted in the swimming pool, whilst another flashback shows her getting her head bashed in with an iron pipe.

Indeed, the story is told in such a disjointed manner its hard to work out if it's meant to be set in the present or the past. The film may have appeared on the DPP's list because of the text on the video sleeve which says "For those who like their sex with a lot of violence", although this is extremely misleading as the violence is presented in a very abstract way.

Not to be confused with the 2016 Tom Hanks film of the same name, the tenants of a New York apartment block meet a grisly demise after one of them comes across a book which chronicles the exploits of an evil trio called "The Three Mothers" who rule the underworld.

The brother of one of the victims, Leigh McCloskey, does a little investigating and discovers the horrible secrets housed in the apartments.

Directed by prolific Italian director Dario Argento, this follow up of sorts to his earlier "Suspiria" (which escaped inclusion on the list), has some interesting scenes, which includes a woman being attacked by dead bodies in a flooded basement and one tenant falling into a room filled with razor wire, before being decapitated by a broken window pane.

Apparently, one scene that caused a lot of aggravation with the censors was that of a cat eating a mouse. Haven't they ever seen "Tom & Jerry"?

Set on the island of Mykonos, this is a film that certainly doesn't do the Greek tourist board any favours. In which a young couple, Chris and Celia, arrive on a Greek island for a winter break and decide to spend their holiday killing and torturing the local sexual deviants.

A film with something to offend the entire "Politically Correct" brigade, with it's depictions of beastiality, incest, torture, racism and homophobia. Some of the more amusing scenes include Chris having sex with a goat, the couple invading a gay party wielding a sword and chasing the host through the streets with it. Chris calling his mother and making her listen to him having sex with Celia in the phone box. A lesbian being decapitated by a bulldozer, and to top it all off the introduction of a farting farmer.

Small wonder this film fell foul of the prudish authorities, although I just found the film to be hilariously bad. It was originally released under the aptly titled "Island of Perversion".

An extremely brutal and shocking film about a young author, played by Cammille Keaton (grand-niece of Buster), who rents a cabin in the countryside, only to attract the unwanted attention a group of young rednecks and their retarded friend, who decide to abduct her and subsequently spend a large portion of the film's running time repeatedly gang raping her.

Having recovered from her ordeal, she goes on a quest for revenge. Hanging, castrating and chopping the 4 attackers to death in retribution.

This was another one of the films that kicked off the "Video Nasties" furore by the media, owing to its extremely lengthy gang rapes, which are depicted with gritty realism and are almost unwatchable. However, the scene's where she kills her attackers for their misdeeds appear almost comical, particularly where she hangs the retarded guy from a tree, which was so ridiculous the whole scene appeared unintentionally funny.

The film was released uncut by both Wizard video and Astra. The Astra cover (pictured left) being the more common. An aborted sequel was filmed in the early 90s, which was later re-edited and released as "Savage Vengeance". The film was later remade in 2011, which spawned a string of sequels of its own. A true sequel was released in 2019 entitled "I Spit on Your Grave: Deja Vu" which picks up 40 years after the events of the original.

If your a devout Catholic, the chances are you probably won't like this low budget film starring former screen sexpot Anita Ekberg, but then the same is also true if your a devout horror fan.

Having just recovered from a brain tumour, Sister Gertrude (Eckberg), who is secretly hooked on dope, returns to the care home/convent she resides, where she proceeds to initiate lesbian affairs with other nuns, picks up guys in local bars and starts doing nasty things to the patients in her care.

Patients get their dentures stomped on and their crutches taken away, whilst the less fortunate are bashed over the head, thrown out of windows, strangled, kicked and stuck with pins before mother superior brings things to a halt by slipping her a poisoned chalice.

Sounds more entertaining than it actually is. This one probably got included on the list for the cover artwork, which appears to show a Nun going down on someone.

Not to be confused with the 2010 remake, two schoolgirls on their way to a rock concert call in at a dope house hoping to buy some marijuana, but instead fall victim to the Illustrious David Hess and his friends. Having driven them out to the countryside, the girls are then subjected to various forms of sexual humiliation, before being tortured with a razor, raped disembowelled and shot.

Having dumped the bodies in some woods, their car subsequently breaks down end up inadvertantly asking for help at the house of one of the parents. Who having discovered what they've done, spend the rest of the film inflicting similar torture onto Hess and his friend in revenge, by means of axe, chainsaw, throat slashing and castration.

The film was notable for being the directorial debut of Wes Craven, who went on to direct "Hills Have Eyes" and "Nightmare on Elm Street" and was actually produced by Sean Cunningham and Steve Miner, who directed and produced the original "Friday the 13th".

Look out for a young Martin Kove, who went on to star in 80's cop show "Cagney and Lacey" and the film "The Karate Kid", not to mention the TV spin off Cobra Kai who has a role as a Sheriff's deputy.

Another Italian exploitation film that borrowed its plot from Wes Cravens "Last House on the Left", was this 1975 offering by Aldo Lado. A couple of girls taking the train home from college for the christmas break unwittingly end up in the same carriage as a couple of psychos and some woman they've picked up.

Having spent a good deal of the journey terrorising, raping and finally killing the two girls. They get off at their stop, but with one of them being injured, make the mistake of visiting a local doctor who just happens to be the father of one of the girls.

After discovering what they have done, the parents proceed to dish out some rather painful revenge on them. Look out for Irene Miracle who plays one of the young victims, who also starred in "Inferno" and "Midnight Express".

Released by Video warehouse, CineHollywood also released this under the title "Night Train Murders".

This somewhat misleadingly titled film actually takes place in the countryside of the Lake District, miles away from the city alluded to in the title, and just to add to the geographical confusion, was actually filmed in the Derbyshire Peak District, not the actual Lakes of Cumbria.

Anyway, Ray Lovelock plays a bearded Hippy art dealer, who gets blamed for a spate of murders that were actually committed by zombies that have been reactivated by an experimental pest control device at a nearby farm, that uses sonic waves to affect insects and vermin, but also has an adverse effect on the recently deceased.

Filmed in England, by Spanish director Jorge Grau with an Italian film crew, this was Intended as a larger budgeted colour remake of "Night of the Living Dead" and is a highly entertaining and somewhat gory horror film. Some of the more interesting scenes include the zombies taking over the hospital and disemboweling the staff and character actor Arthur Kennedy playing a bigoted Irish copper.

This release, pictured left, by VIP was uncut. But LVC also released a cut version entitled "Don't Open the Window".

The video packaging claims that this film is based on a true story, but the plot is so far fetched you would have a hard time believing that.

Set in a Nazi "Love Camp" that services the needs of front line officers, this is actually a very poor film, done in the same sleazy vein as "Isla - She Wolf of the SS". As 2 young WAC officers go undercover as POW's in the prison camp hoping to get some information from a scientist that's being held there, before being sprung out by the French resistance.

Unfortunately things go wrong with the break out and they end up overstaying their welcome and being subjected to the same indignities as the other inmates. Producers R.W. Cresse and David Freidman turn up as 2 of the Nazi officers, that appear more interested in inflicting softcore gropings than hardcore torturing.

Julia, a teacher at a school for the deaf, has a hideously deformed twin sister that resides in the local loony bin. She escapes to spring a surprise birthday party for Julia by murdering all the party guests with the help of a giant killer Rottweiler.

NOT to be confused with the 1974 Peter Cushing/Vincent Price horror film of the same name, or the 2004 film with Lance Henricksen. This one probably got noticed by the authorities due to a gory scene with someone getting an axe in the back and the dog getting killed by a drill.

Features music by Riz Ortelli, who also composed the score to"Cannibal Holocaust". Director Ovidio G. Assonitis went on to produce the hilariously bad "Piranha 2 : Flying Killers".

A serial killer in a ceremonial mask stalks the streets of New Orleans during the Mardi Gras festival, and proceeds to mutilate hapless prostitutes as sacrifices to some aztec goddes, whilst a couple of bungling cops scour the streets looking for clues as to his identity.

Not sure how the killer managed to afford an apartment big enough to accomodate a sacrificial alter, but then that's par for the course in this borefest from director Jack Weiss (Crypt of Dark Secret's) who obviously "borrowed" its premise from "Blood Feast" (another entry on the nasties list).

The film undoubtedly got listed by the authorities for the repeated scenes of female victims having their stomachs split open and bloody organs pulled out. But this effect is repeated so many times it loses it's impact, particularly as the torso used is so obviously made of latex.

Look out for 70s Playboy pin up Laura Misch, who has a role as one of the victims. The film was released by both Goldstar (pictured left) and Market Video using similar covers. The latter being the rarer of the 2.

High school student Billy (Jimmy McNichol) has been raised by his overly protective aunt, played by Susan Tyrell, following his parents car crash. But she gets jealous of his girlfriends, so goes around murdering them in order to keep him around.

A sort-of reverse of the plot from "Psycho", the film was probably included because of its portrayal of a semi-incestuous relationship between herself and the young orphaned nephew she'd been raising as her own.

Directed by William Asher, who I was surprised to learn also did a lot of the old "I Love Lucy" TV episodes, the film shows some entertainingly gory moments near the end, but mostly plays as a psychological thriller.

A young Bill Paxton (of "Aliens" fame), turns up in a small role as a high school 'jock', whilst character actor Bo Svenson ("Delta Force", "Kill Bill 2") plays a homophobic detective, who repeatedly accuses Billy of being a "fag".

A psychiatric patient,killed his parents with an axe when he was a child, after finding them engaged in a strange bondage session, is released from a mental hospital, supposedly cured, only to be triggered off again after visiting a peep show. He subsequently goes on to menace a poor single parent and her 3 kids, whilst bumping off a few other women along the way.

There's some spectacular gore (in the uncut version anyway), particularly where one of the young children takes a shotgun to him at the film's climax, but on the whole film is rather dull. Like other titles, this got included on the list because of it's mix of violence and sex (such things were a strict no-no at the BBFC at the time).

This title became rather infamous, as the distributor was actually jailed for 6 months, for releasing a version 60s longer than the cinema version, even though the film was not actually uncut. The film also gained notoriety after Tom Savini threatened to sue them for using his name to promote the film after they credited him for the special effects on their promotional material, when he was only a consultant. They were actually done by Ed French (Starship Troopers).

Not to be confused with any of the "Planet of the Apes" movies (and no, Roddy MacDowell does not appear in this), this low budget Mexican horror is about a surgeon who tries to save his son from a fatal disease by giving him a transplant using a Gorilla heart.

Though the operation is successful it has serious side effects, as his son starts taking on the characteristics of the organ's donor, becoming deformed and mutated and sprouting excessive facial hair, before going on a bloody rampage.

Features some of most unconvincing gore effects, including a scalping which is nothing more than a wig being pulled off a bald headed man and a false eye being popped out of a latex mask. Probably got the DPP's attention because of the graphic open heart surgery footage used in the operation scenes.

A somewhat bizarre entry into the DPP's hit list (but then that's true of most of these films) was this unconvincingly graphic outing from 1980 by director James Wasson, about a killer Bigfoot/Yeti creature on the rampage in the American wilderness.

A Yeti hunting party from a University sets out into the nearby backwoods to find the creature only to get their throats cut, faces fried, arms ripped off and beaten to death with the soggy ends and even disembowelled and whipped with their own intestines in slow motion (great stuff)!

Not to be confused with the old black and white film of the same name from 1957, the movie is ludicrously funny, particularly during one scene where a passing motorcyclist stops to answer the call of nature and inadvertently pee's over the creature, who's hiding in the bushes, and subsequently gets his wedding tackle removed in a tearfully painful, but funny, scene.

An exceptionally surreal horror tale by art house director Andrjez Zulawski. Set in Berlin, Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill (of "Omen 3", and indeed "Jurassic Park" fame) star as a couple whose marriage is on the rocks, primarily due to her mental health issues.

Believing his wife is having an affair, he decides to sort out the person he suspects she is up to no good with, only to find her making love instead to a slimy octopus creature. Realising she's not as mad as he originally thought, he decides an impromptu divorce is in order.

There's a bit of bloodshed, including where Adjani slices into her own neck with an electric carving knife and a scene where she has a miscarriage on the Metro which is quite yucky, but nothing overly gory and is very much an arty sort of film. The film was released with 2 different covers, the one pictured left being the more common.

The same production team that brought us such turkeys as "The Power" and "Kindred" made this equally dull slasher film about a group of students who volunteer to clear out a derelict college building prior to its demolition, but end up falling prey to a psychopathic killer who's squatting in the building.

The poor kids are subsequently garrotted, beaten with spiked clubs, dismembered and dumped in giant pots of boiling water. But the gore is relatively unconvincing given the films low budget.

Daphne Zuniga, who appeared in "The Fly 2" and played Princess Vespa in the sci-fi comic spoof "Spaceballs", appears in a supporting role.

Given my first exposure to Italian cannibal films was Cannibal Ferox, I was more than a little surprised to find well known 70's film star Stacey Keach and former Bond girl Ursella Andress appearing in one of these, but nether the less, here it is

This particular flick is set in New Guinea, where Keach is helping Andress search the jungle for her missing husband, although they're also secretly looking for Uranium deposits. They are later joined by Claudio Cassilenni, then get captured by a local cannibal tribe called the Pooka (Puker?) who find them worshipping her husband's decomposed remains, as they can hear his giger counter ticking and believe it to be his heart still working.

Better known under it's alternate title "Mountain of the Cannibal God" this is actually quite a good jungle adventure film, but like most cannibal movies, features numerous nasty scene's of animal killing (in the uncut version anyway), including a turtle being eaten by a crocodile and an iguana being split open. But Andress fans will undoubtedly enjoy the scene where she is tied up, stripped naked, and painted with goo!

Several of the gore scenes from this film were later "borrowed" (ie ripped off) by Umberto Lenzi and re-used in his film "Eaten Alive" (AKA "Emerald Jungle", "Mangiati Vivi") which surprisingly didn't make the list.
