One of the many teen slasher movies to come out in the wake of "Scream", this one stars a young Brittany Murphy, as Jody. A high school senior, who's friends are being picked off by a deranged female, in the most violent of fashions, before they've had chance to 'consummate' their relationships (as it were)...
Yes, it seems this particular killer has a thing for bumping off virgins, in the ironically named town of Cherry Falls, Virginia. The local Sheriff (played by "Aliens" star Michael Biehn), who also happens to be Jody's father, is unable to find a motive for the killings and is somewhat bewildered as to why the killer is picking on virgins.
However, it also seems that the killer has now taken an interest in his daughter. But with few leads to go on, the teen bodies piling up, and irate parents not being happy at the thought of their children trying to get themselves laid in order to prevent them being the killers next target, the Sheriff seems to have his work cut out for him. But could he and some of the other townsfolk be harbouring a dark secret which might explain the recent events?
Directed by Geoffrey Wright, who also gave us the infamous cult film "Romper Stomper", this is certainly one of the more unusual slasher films I've seen. I'm not sure how many other movies there are featuring female serial killers brutally murdering virgin teenagers, but I'm sure it can't be many.
Whilst on a pure entertainment level 'd say the film is fairly watchable and enjoyable, with some fun dark humour thrown in, it is otherwise fairly unremarkable in the grand scheme of things. The dark humour and performances by Biehn and Murphy being about the only things that prevent this from becoming just another "Scream" clone.
So overall, I'd say its worth a watch, but its not exactly a masterpiece of horror..
