House of Wax

Tag line : Prey, Slay, Display!

House of Wax boxAnother one of the many remakes to hit the cinemas in recent years, this time reworking of the classic Vincent Price film of the same name. In this, a group of college kids (who look a bit too old to be college kids) break down in the middle of the countryside on the way to a football match. Realising they're not going to make the kick off, Carly (Elisha Cuthbert) and her brother Nick (Chad Murray) go off in search of help.

Accepting a lift from an eccentric backwoodsman, he takes them to a nearby town which doesn't appear to be on the map. With no-one about at the nearby garage, they decide to take a look around the old wax museum nearby, but are disturbed by the exceptionally realistic appearance of the dummies within.

When the garage mechanic finally appears they soon discover the town is harbouring a deadly secret and there's a reason why the dummies at the wax museum have that "lifelike" appearance.

Also starring that dopey bint Paris Hilton (who the hell told her she could act, and what where they thinking of?) the film is actually quite entertaining and there's some nice gory scenes showing you how the museum owners make their dummies. Just a pity Paris Hilton couldn't get killed off for real!

Overall Marks : 5.5/10.

Terrifying Trivia.

  • Alternate tag lines "The flesh is weak, wax is forever", "See Paris Die", "There's a reason they look so real".

  • The films budget was $30,000,000.

  • Paris Hilton was the directors only choice for the role of Paige and all the other characters were built around her. Kind of odd as she wasn't even the lead actress (thankfully).

  • Though set in Louisiana in America, the film was actually shot in Australia.

  • The set in Warner Studio's lot accidentally burned down one day whilst testing out the special effects and had to be completely rebuilt.

  • Though listed in the credits as "Jones", Chad Murray and Elisha Cuthbert's characters had no last names in the actual script which caused much debate during filming.

  • The chief bad guy was named "Vincent" after Vincent Price from the 1953 version of the film.

  • Elisha Cuthbert apparently had to have wooden blocks strapped to her shoes during some scenes to make her appear the same height as Jared Padelecki's character, who was playing her boyfriend Wade.
